CV tips

Create a good and distinctive CV.

It is the first impression and your calling card for a new assignment or job. So make sure you are found, viewed and selected. We have some advice that will help us both.

1. Start with your personal information

Make sure your CV starts with clear personal details: name, email address, telephone number, date of birth, address and gender. This helps automated systems, such as those of recruiters, to process your data correctly.

2. Write a concise, powerful profile sketch

Use the first few lines of your resume to introduce yourself. Describe who you are, where your strengths lie and what you are looking for in your next job or assignment. Keep it short and relevant.

3. List your work experience in chronological order

Start with your most recent work experience and work back in time. Mention per function:

  • The name of the employer.
  • The period in which you worked there.
  • Your job title.
  • A brief description of your responsibilities and key achievements.

4. Highlight your training and certifications

Post education and certifications that are relevant to the position you are applying for. Don't forget:

  • The name of the institution.
  • The degree or certificate obtained.
  • The year you completed it.

5. Use action-oriented language

Write in the first person and use strong verbs such as “achieved,” “improved,” “developed,” or “resolved.” This gives your CV a professional and proactive appearance.

6. Tailor your CV to the position

A standard CV does not always work. Tailor your CV to the position and company you are applying to. Use the job description as a guide to highlight key skills and experience.

7. Ensure a clear layout

Keep your CV sleek and clear:

  • Use clear headings and a consistent font.
  • Avoid long blocks of text; use bullet points where possible.
  • Limit your resume to a maximum of two pages.

8. Be honest

Don't mention experience or skills you don't have. Recruiters and employers value honesty and authenticity.

9. Submit your CV in Word or PDF

Compose your CV in a Word or PDF file. Provide both a Dutch version and, if relevant, an English version. This makes it easier for international clients to read your CV.

10. Ask for feedback

Have your resume reviewed by a friend, colleague or recruiter. They can identify errors or make suggestions to improve your resume.
